Crafting our tables

Every Pelissier card table is made by hand in our Devon workshop where our skilled carpenters assemble the complete table from the high-quality components. In this way we can be sure that you will be delighted with the table you receive.

We source our wood from Northern France, choosing carefully prepared beech wood from sustainable forests near Compiegne. The wood for the legs and frames of our tables is sanded to a smooth finish and can then be sprayed with a specially-prepared wood stain to give it a mahogany or other wood appearance. Or the natural beech can be left, unstained, to give a lighter, more modern feel. The wood is then varnished to give it a soft satin sheen. The result is a polished-wood appearance that still reveals the natural grains in the wood.

Most of our tables are designed to fold down when not in use. To accomplish this we fit the special hinges designed by M. Pelissier and made for us in one of France’s most modern precision metal factories. This three-part hinge provides a stable and robust fitting yet is easy to operate. The hinge was patented by M. Pelissier and remains, today, the most admired hinging system.

The playing surface is mounted on a board of MDF. This material is the best for maintaining its flatness and won’t warp or bend like laminated or natural wood. We choose a special type of MDF that has been treated to withstand moisture. This board is then covered with wool felt or baize as required. Bridge clubs normally choose the traditional green felt material used on our Club model while individual, home users prefer to choose our woven baize materials which can be supplied in a range of different colours.

Each table is inspected by our carpenters before being packed in a carefully-designed transit box for courier delivery to you.

Each table is covered by our three-year warranty should any fault be found in the hinge mechanism or playing surface (subject to normal wear and tear.)
